Still Frame Analysis

By doing a still frame analysis it helps us to understand different shot angles, signifiers and different codes and coventions to further our knowledge so we can protray these in our own thrilller.

Weather, pathetic fallacy: There are no leaves on the threes, which denotes it is wintertime. winter can connotate something bad is about to happen, possibly to the girl, as in the winter it gets colder and darker.

The twigs/branches look like they are going straight through her body. This can signify the girl is going to die.

Extreme long shot is used to show the audience the distance between the girl and the house. This denotes that her Mum and Dad are too far away from her to help her if she was in danger. By using an extreme long shot to show the distance between the girl and the house, it signifies the girl is at risk of  danger.

The little doll houses can denote her innocence, which can connote that the event of her death is caused by elements of evil, as it is eveil to kill the young and innocent.

The position of the girl: The girl is bending too far forwards into the lake, and this can signify how she is going to die.

the red coat: the colour red signifies death, blodd, danger. The fact that the girl is wearing a red coat connotes she is the one in danger, or the one who is going to die.

Her eyes are not visible. This connotes she could be disturbed and not normal. She could be blind from reality or maybe she can see out but we can't see in, which foreshadows what could happen later on in the film.

The medium close up of the little girl who has wrinkles is an enigma code to engage the viwer so they can question who the character is and why she is like that. The factt that she is old connotes mystery, which is found in thrillers. The world old connotes a past, and there is a narrative behind. So perhaps it will be shown in the thriller film,

Her lips are dispositioned and blue which could signify death. The fact that her lips are blue could suggest she is a cold person or the blue suggests that the person could have been dead a long time ago or soul maybe.

The black background and dark lighting sets the theme as black connotes mystery which are conventions of thriller. The black background allows the main character to show significant and importance . It eliminates objects in the ground to show the intensity of her emotion.

She is holding on to her neck with a blanket to show she wants comfort as if she was a baby as well as wanting to be loved but in contrast it looks like she could be trying to self harm. This draws the audiences attention as they might have empathy for her,

The serial killer is wearing a mask to hide his identity which leaves a mysetry for the audience and cause tension as we dont know who the character is. Thrillers usually do this to shock the audience as its always the innocent looking which end up being the murderers

There is shadowing on the killers mask which gives him more mystery and it shows that theres a darkside to him.

From this scene we can see that the killer is holding an object in his other hand which most likely is a weapon to finish killing the innocent woman.

In this scene we can see that the killer is grabbing an innocent woman by the neck, violence is very common in thriller movies as it is the main element that brings a thril to the audience

The woman is wearing a white shirt, the colour white connotes holiness, heaven, innocence etc. This portrays her as an innocent character.

The scene is set in the dark which implies that it is happening in the night.  most evil deeds are done under cover of darkness. This also makes the scene more scary as it makes the audience feel uncomfortable.

The scene is in the kitchen which implies that the woman was unexpected and that the serial killer planned it out.

The woman looks like she is screaming as her mouth is open which shows that she is suffering from pain.

There is a shadow on the characters face which could imply that he has a darkside to him which could make him look like the evil character.

This scene was set at night as the light is on in the room, most thrillers use darkness or nightime to shock the audience and lift from their seats.

The curtains are plain white which could give the audience a ghostly look.

The character is not sleeping under the covers which tells us that he is not comfortable and he could be sensing that something terrible may occur.

This scene would give a thrill to the audience as they would be able to put themselves in the character that is sleeping shoes and feel the fear for him. As the character is sleeping he has no idea that someone is standing infront of him and staring at him as if he is going to do something to him.

The walls are ripped which give the house an uncomfortable look, it diesnt give the warm, home sweet home feeling. It could be a haunted house which is the key element in codes and conventions of thriller.

The wallpaper looks ripped which could foreshadow that a murder scene occured.
